Contemplating the miracle

One of Compassion’s close friends often asks: “Why doesn’t Guruji show off his powers? Especially when in dangerous times?”

Understandably, that’s how people have been conditioned since ancient times: “Spiritual learning is synonymous with learning the miraculous.”

Few realize that showing off your prowess not only invites more attacks from outsiders, but also poisons you inside with ego.

That’s why Guruji often shares to his close disciples: “Among all the supernatural powers, nothing beats patience. Among all deceit, nothing is higher than peace.”

After living in the Ashram for 18 years, a lot of terror and horror ensued. The latest one, Guruji’s wife was almost beaten by someone, until she fainted and fell ill for 3 months.

Not a single disrespectful word was spoken to the abuser. The Compassion family acts smoothly, politely and systematically.

Very few understand, that is how a true Master teaches. Not through words, but through real actions. The most luminous type of language.

One day a warrior was returning home, then was intercepted by village thugs. The swordsman was asked to crawl under the crotch of the thugs.

Without complaining this warrior did it in order to enter the village. A few nights later his village was attacked by a group of robbers. Lightly this warrior drives away these robbers.

Seeing such high self-defense skills, the villagers asked: “Why didn’t he treat the village thugs the same, he can just kick them so they collapse?”

Accompanied by a smile, this warrior replied: “Learning martial arts is not intended to injure. Learning martial arts is intended to make the earth more harmonious.”

The spiritual journey is also similar. In the beginning there will be a lot of great miraculous things. But that is not the purpose of spiritual study. Spiritual learning is learning to make the earth harmonious.

Seekers on the path of Shiva in particular, did meet Shakti one day. And once the journey was amazing, there one will understand that Shakti is energy. And Shiva is pure consciousness.

Once you can bring pure awareness to every movement of energy, that is real enlightenment. That is also what the warrior above did.

The practical step is, if someone looks at you badly or sends bad energy, look outside with your eyes as they are. Look inside also with the inner eyes as they are.

Once the mind is clean and clear like a mirror, the bad energy won’t touch you. It will return to the sender. This path can save our soul journey.

May all beings be happy. May beautiful thoughts come from all directions. Shanti, shanti, shanti (peace, peace, peace)”.

About the author

H.H. Guruji Gede Prama

Gede Prama started his spiritual journey through a dialogue with his symbolic Guru in a village at the north of Bali. The journey is then being enriched with his experiences of studying abroad, his meetings with the world greatest spiritual Gurus: His Holiness Dalai Lama, The Venerable Thich Nhat Hanh, as well as Professor Karen Armstrong; and also being deepened by his intense meditation practices.

Despite the fact that he was once a CEO of a large corporation with thousand of employees, and was traveling abroad frequently for the purpose of teaching, yet, being deeply moved by the Bali bombing incident in 2002, he then decided to leave everything and went back to his home island.
He has never leave Bali for the past few years. In fact, he rarely leaves the silence of the forest where he lives, except for the purpose of teaching at the sacred sites within Bali.
