Lucid Dreaming

Written by Gede Prama

On the roof of the Tibetan earth there is an old teaching called lucid dreaming.  There are a number of things that humans can achieve through this type of dream.  First, it can tell about the shadow within, the term from psychologist Carl Jung.  The parts of the self that are suppressed and hidden.  The more pressure it is, the more often it comes to the surface in a form of less friendly energy.

Secondly, this type of dream also presents medicine.  Not only mental and spiritual medication, but also a medicine for physical pain.  Guruji experienced it personally.  Thirdly, dreams of being bright and luminous sometimes reveal the secret realms.  What needs to be watched out for, not all dreams can be included in a lucid dreaming group.  And dreams of this type appear less frequently than other type of dreams.

Fourthly, the results of spiritual cultivation in the waking realm are seen in dreams.  And this dreamland becomes important input about what will happen in the realm of death later.  If friends are accustomed to being calm, away from fear and other bad energies in the dream world, there is a possibility that later in the realm of death it will also be calm and far from fear.

An important sign of lucid dreaming, after being awake, we can still remembers clearly the details of our dream.  Almost nothing is forgotten.  There is a message to be conveyed.  Genuine dreams do not usually invite pride.  Like showing off to people that the person concerned is better than other people.  At the same time, we can easily grasps the true meaning of the dream.

Another practical applicative way to check the authenticity of this type of dream, after waking up, inhale through the right nostril exhale through the left nostril, inhale through the left nostril exhale through the right nostril, if both nostrils show no signs of being blocked at all,  there is a possibility that it was a bright dream

If that happens, try less asking for someone else’s interpretation.  Because the same dream can mean different things to different people.  The same dream can mean different things at different times, even though the person is the same.  So we need a unique blend of intelligence, sensitivity, and very sensitive feelings.  If you have a true Guru that you believe in, you may consult your dreams to Him/Her.

To help friends to be healthy and safe, especially in an unhealthy times, here are some ingredients for reflection, so that you can experience lucid dreaming.  First, go to bed on a relatively empty stomach.  Four hours before bed try not to eat solid foods.  So that our digestion system goes to rest at night.

If the stomach is full, a lot of energy is taken up by digestion to process food.  This can cause
less energy is left for traveling to other realms.  Secondly, since the natural energy is awake to determine the direction of travel in the invisible realm, think about things to be grateful for before sleeping.  Remember to whisper the mantra: “I am a very deep gratitude.”

Thirdly, if there are bad energy left before bed, such as anger, resentment and hurt feelings, quickly heal yourself with sincerity to forgive.  Become aware of the complex web of suffering behind the person who hurts us.  It can be because of losing a job, financial difficulties, rarely happy since childhood, parents who have problems, up to school problems.  From here we can invite the energy of forgiveness within.

Fourthly, because during sleep the fifth chakra the esophagus moves the most dynamically, try to imagine the holy practices of each one before going to sleep.  Just as Hindus admire the holy letter Om, or the Tibetan Tantra people admire the holy letter Hum, in every religion there is a sacred letter.  Imagine it written neatly around the throat.

Fifthly, whatever happens in dreams, before or after dreaming, beautify the soul garden inside with sincerity.  There is no need to make targets that you have to have a lucid dream tonight.  There is no need to be disappointed if you don’t see a lucid dream.  Immerse yourself in the natural world of sleep accompanied by perfect sincerity.  Good luck close friends.  Hopefully you will always be in good health.

Gede Prama

Gede Prama started his spiritual journey through a dialogue with his symbolic Guru in a village at the north of Bali. The journey is then being enriched with his experiences of studying abroad, his meetings with the world greatest spiritual Gurus: His Holiness Dalai Lama, The Venerable Thich Nhat Hanh, as well as Professor Karen Armstrong; and also being deepened by his intense meditation practices.

Despite the fact that he was once a CEO of a large corporation with thousand of employees, and was traveling abroad frequently for the purpose of teaching, yet, being deeply moved by the Bali bombing incident in 2002, he then decided to leave everything and went back to his home island.
He has never leave Bali for the past few years. In fact, he rarely leaves the silence of the forest where he lives, except for the purpose of teaching at the sacred sites within Bali.
