Stop Being a Source of Poison to Yourself

Written by Gede Prama

Everywhere there are natural signs that are touching our hearts.  The most touching thing, of course, is that the number of Covid victims are increasing everywhere.  The number of cities with red status has also increased.  In the western part of North Bali, yesterday the people were noisy about the hearing of a mysterious big explosion in the morning.  If not guided with carefulness, these series of event will cause humans to give birth to a lot of poison inside.

From poison to fear and then become panic.  From poison vengeance to anger.  As is often shared, what happens on the outside can give birth to the poison inside, but it can also give birth to medicine inside.  It depends on how someone cultivates it in his own mind.  If the thoughts are very negative, even the most beautiful news can give birth to the poison within.

Refreshing all friend’s memories, the biochemical reaction of the brain is the point of contact between body, mind, feelings and spirit.  If the biochemical reaction is cortisol (excessive stress) or excessive adrenaline, not only can the body collapse.  The spirit inside also invited dark spirits from outside.

For that reason, let’s learn to stop being a source of poison for ourselves. Start to be more clear and be far from fear and panic, remember the dangerous encounter between two fake news stories.  Fake news on the outside, as well as fake news on the inside (read: a mind that is far from clean and clear).  Stay away from all horrifying news.  Better to know a little but healthy, than knowing a lot but the mind become chaos.

Meditation is a highly recommended spiritual step in this regard.  Especially by tying up the ship of the mind using a strong anchor called the pause between two breaths.  If you want to go deeper, feel also the pause between 2 sounds, between 2 memories, between 2 thoughts, between 2 feelings.  It is very helpful to be able to have a clear and clean mind.

When we can clean our mind from the poison of vengeance and anger, it is also important to learn about forgiveness.  No matter how hard it feels inside, learn to forgive.  Without forgiveness, the body will continue producing harmful toxins inside.  Remember, it is their past soul wounds that make other people hurt us.  Not because they are evil.

In other words, not only you who were hurt, the people who hurted you was also hurting inside even worse.  Once you can feel the intense pain behind the anger of the wounding person, there beautiful flowers of forgiveness can bloom inside.  In addition to encouraging friends to be diligent and sincerely forgiving, here are the wonderful benefits of forgiveness:

  1. Forgiveness makes tension (stress) decrease, as well as the ability to be happy and peaceful increases
  2. Forgiveness makes the quality of our sleep become much better, the quality of your relationship with life will also much better
  3. Forgiveness makes it easier for your brain waves to grow from beta at least to alpha.  And this is a healthy indicator.
  4. In-depth studies of a number of world universities concluded, forgiveness helps improve performance in life
  5. Forgiveness makes a person grow from being a “victim” to being a “master” in life
  6. Forgiveness increases self-love (in love with our own both inner strengths and inner weaknesses) as the root of all love
  7. In compassion training, forgiveness is both the first and foremost step

Above all, remember beautiful souls, the inability to forgive others is a reflection of the inability to forgive oneself within.  Thus, learn to forgive the mistakes, flaws and imperfections within.  To be noted together, all humans have their own flaws and imperfections.

Gede Prama

Gede Prama started his spiritual journey through a dialogue with his symbolic Guru in a village at the north of Bali. The journey is then being enriched with his experiences of studying abroad, his meetings with the world greatest spiritual Gurus: His Holiness Dalai Lama, The Venerable Thich Nhat Hanh, as well as Professor Karen Armstrong; and also being deepened by his intense meditation practices.

Despite the fact that he was once a CEO of a large corporation with thousand of employees, and was traveling abroad frequently for the purpose of teaching, yet, being deeply moved by the Bali bombing incident in 2002, he then decided to leave everything and went back to his home island.
He has never leave Bali for the past few years. In fact, he rarely leaves the silence of the forest where he lives, except for the purpose of teaching at the sacred sites within Bali.
