The Most Touching Speech

Written by Gede Prama

One day when millions of people were ready to support Mahatma Gandhi to begin a huge demonstration against the British colony, Gandhiji sat quietly meditating for hours. After spending hours of meditating, the students asked: “Why should you meditate in such long time?”. With a gentle smile, this simple man replied: “There should not be a drop of anger in doing kindness”. And the results have been recorded clearly in history, the strongest army in the world in the year of 1940s must be withdrawn from India.

After spending a very long year of deep suffering, after walking through a very long dark tunnel of soul, Nelson Mandela was finally allowed to leave the prison where he was nearly lost his own life many times. As he was ready to leave the prison, at the gate of the prison he murmured: “If I do not forgive, by then I will carry a prison in my mind wherever I go”.

Running away from the discomfort, that’s what most people do. But a touching woman with a very beautiful heart took the opposite step. From her very young age until her body was wrinkled because of old age, Mother Teresa grew up in the midst of the discomfort of Calcutta. And she was attacked by people many times. Some person even called her as a dictator. In the midst of this hustle and bustle, she once said: “Ultimately it is not between you and the people, but between you and God”.

One member of the Compassion’s spiritual family live in Jakarta by being a taxi driver. One day he served a very old mother carrying a number of big luggages. After hearing the story, it turns out she was expelled by her only son from home. Especially since her house only contains 1 room, while his son just got married. Hearing this story, this mother’s item was lifted to the end of a very small alley far away. The driver does not only refuse to be paid. This mother was even given some money.

Some holy books may refer to this age as a dark age. Many public figures are even very pessimistic with the dark aura of the world in this day and age. A number of friends in the West are very afraid of the tendency of the earth whose inhabitants are booming. But with all these darkness in the world, here and there are still the Light.

And among all the Light that continually illuminate the earth, the most touching Light is the Light of kindness. To put it more precisely, kindness that has no opposite. The kind of kindness which is here because it finds happiness by doing goodness. No more and no less. They are simply there as they are.

And the journey to get there is of course far from easy. In some parts, even full of problems and challenges. Some holy souls even paid their fare by losing their lives. But from time to time, from age to age, there are still beautiful souls who share the Light here on earth.

In our day, one of the beautiful souls who was born here named Eckhart Tolle. In his masterpiece entitled “The Power of Now”, many times the last German-born man wrote: “In every age some parts of life decline, some other parts grow, but most people spoke only the declining

Whether you like it or not, that is the behavior of this age. The number of angry men who carrying bomb are very small. Peace lovers are far more numerous. But the discourse on terrorist violence, corruption, war, hackers inhabit more than a half of the topic of conversation in public spaces.

That is the reason why, to close friends in the Compassion spiritual family is often shared, whenever people attack always answer their attack with beautiful attitudes. Whenever the attackers lose their face, treat them with beautiful attitudes. In the right time society will understand, this is the most touching speech. At the same time this is the most touching Light. Even when the sun, the moon, the stars are completely darkened by the clouds, this last beautiful Light still shining here on earth.
