Living in harmony guided by meditation

In order to perfect Guruji’s sincere service to all friends, here is a summary of the results of Guruji’s talk on the first day of the July 2022 meditation session.

Meditation is the spiritual heritage of all mankind, it does not belong to one particular religion.  And this teaching will be easier to digest if it uses the language of science.

In the language of neuro-science (brain), meditation helps you transition from beta waves (a normal state of consciousness) to alpha waves (a calmer state of consciousness).

In the alpha wave, a person will be much more creative and productive.  There is much less anger and tension in the alpha wave.

For the brain to transition from beta to alpha, remember this concise but solid message: “Be a Witness.”  All the energy flows outside and inside are just passing through.

The insults of people outside are only passing by, the bad feeling or the good feeling inside are also passing by.  Try less on rejecting the negatives, and also try less clinging on to the positive.  It is enough to see it and be a witness.

If you want to go deeper, transition from alpha to theta (half awake half asleep).  At this moment the door to the dark subconscious opens.

It is a golden opportunity to bring Light to the darkness of the subconscious.  To make the transition from alpha to theta happen, set this message: “Rest” in the present moment as it is.

Leave behind any form of conflict and criticism.  Dualities such as right, wrong, good or bad are the brain’s way of understanding reality. That is not the actual reality.

It is a brain vehicle that is thought to be reality.  In order for the mind to “rest”, realize deeply, everything that happens in this world is part of the same dance of perfection.

From small events like a dry leaf falling to war are all part of the dance of perfection.  Bringing us beautiful messages and guidance.

After the mind feels rest, which is marked by half-drowsiness, take the lantern into the darkness of the subconscious inside.  Whisper this mantra to your inner self: “I am deeply grateful”.

For friends whose meditation practices are already long and deep, they can transition themself from theta to delta (deep sleep state).  The body may sit, but the mind begins to sleep deeply.

Generally in this state there are no dreams. Even if a dream appears, it usually carries a secret message from the secret realm.  But this is very rare.

The transition from theta to delta is easier if you “smile” to the present.  Without rejecting the negatives, whatever the blessings of the present moment are all embraced with a smile.

When we meditated together at the monastery, we heard something falling, the sound of a motorbike passing by, until the voices of our friends were coughing, all of them were embraced with a smile.

To be precise, a smile filled with deep understanding, that all beings carry a sacred mission in this realm.  Even the worms in the dirty mud carry a sacred mission that is to make the soil become fertile.

For those who are blessed, transition from delta to gamma.  Enlightenment, supreme peace, unity, or whatever you call it, usually occurs in gamma waves.

There is only one thing that can be said in this case: “Beyond words”.  Beyond all words.  Lao Tzu from China formulated it very neatly.

“He who understands does not speak. He who speaks does not understand”.  Morihei Ueshiba from Japan said: “There are many roads to the top of Mount Fuji. But there is only one peak. It is called unconditional love.”

Balinese elders are known as Embang (perfect silence), similar to the Tibetan elders who gave the name Rigpa.  Any human words would fail to explain it.

May all beings be happy.  May all beings be happy.  May all beings be happy.  May all beings be happy.

About the author

H.H. Guruji Gede Prama

Gede Prama started his spiritual journey through a dialogue with his symbolic Guru in a village at the north of Bali. The journey is then being enriched with his experiences of studying abroad, his meetings with the world greatest spiritual Gurus: His Holiness Dalai Lama, The Venerable Thich Nhat Hanh, as well as Professor Karen Armstrong; and also being deepened by his intense meditation practices.

Despite the fact that he was once a CEO of a large corporation with thousand of employees, and was traveling abroad frequently for the purpose of teaching, yet, being deeply moved by the Bali bombing incident in 2002, he then decided to leave everything and went back to his home island.
He has never leave Bali for the past few years. In fact, he rarely leaves the silence of the forest where he lives, except for the purpose of teaching at the sacred sites within Bali.
