Compassion

The Intelligence of Compassion

Written by Gede Prama

To many beautiful souls, the contemporary human suffering is very touching. Suicide, corruption, depression, divorce are all increase everywhere. Many friends of the West who seriously learn meditation in Bali open the secret, they are very eager to find the most rapid healing tool. Mainly because the burden of suffering inside is so deep and wounding.

The Fastest Healer

On the roof of the earth called Tibet ever born many high level practitioners who try various spiritual practices to cure the soul. After spending years of deep practice, Tibetan comes into conclusion that the fastest tool that can cure human suffering is compassion. Mainly because compassion can clean all inner dirt, compassion can perfect all positive inner potentials such as love, and finally helping soul to grow and glow.

Unfortunately, this approach of healing requires a condition that makes ordinary people full of fear. That condition is the presence of enemies. Any friends who are serious in this path will find, in every place and every time we meet threatening enemies. However, enemies are here not to stop the spiritual journey, they are here to perfect the soul journey.

Christina Noble is one of a bright example in this case. She spent her childhood in North of England in a very a painful way. Begging here and there, not eating for days, till sexually harassed. And at the peak of her suffering she dreamed of Vietnamese children who were crying for help. That is why, after coming out of the scary suffering, she then take good care of so many children who are wounded by the war in Vietnam. The message is simple, global suffering is a spiritual opportunity. Deep suffering is really purifying. Only through deep suffering then soul can grow and glow.

Learning to Heal Yourself

Inner travellers who sink deep within know, enemies are parts of ourselves that we reject. When we hate our anger as an example, then we will find grumpy people everywhere. When someone hates his ambition, he/she will meet ambitious people in many places. That is why; the starting point of healing is to learn to be the good friend of yourself.

And compassion is very helpful in this regard because keep seeing life with the eyes of suffering. In different degree, we are all suffer. And suffering does not need our blame and judgment, it needs our gentle hug. For that reason, on the path of meditation shortcomings, imperfections are gently hugged like hugging a crying baby. The better you hug the crying baby within, the faster the baby will stop crying.

Once the baby inside stop crying, then one can see enemies with a different perspective. Enemies are no longer appears to be the one who carry threatening weapons, they begin to appear as sandpapers that softening the heart. For those who grow deep in compassion, they will see enemies as holy people who sprinkle holy water. Any spiritual seekers who arrived here will understand the message of the wise: “enemy is a teacher who is unrevealed”.

Home of Perfection

In the long tunnel of compassion, it is often heard a message like this: “If you cannot love your enemies, it’s a good feedback that your compassion need further improvement”. Borrowing from Martin Luther King Jr., the highest spiritual achievement of Jesus is when he loved his executioner. Mahatma Gandhi even called the shooter who ended his life with the name of the Lord (Shri Ram). For those who have deeply suffered will know, that suffering is the best training of compassion that ever heard.

The difference with the ordinary people who are deeply wounded by suffering, the disciples in this path transform suffering into an illuminating light. Let’s read one of the most important message in the long tunnel of compassion: “if you want to grow, find a way to grow that make the others grow”. In the other part of the journey ever heard a message like this: “There is a sacred mystery behind enemies, the mystery of healing and perfection”.

This is the home of perfection, a home where strength and weaknesses are gently hugged by the same smile of tenderness. A home where the soul can find calmness and wholeness. And the energy that guide the soul here is the intelligence of compassion. And as noted above, the true touching teacher is actually the threatening enemy.
