Smile Simply Smile

While still serving friends in Landih Bali, a meditation participant asked suprisingly: “Why is Guruji praying for the devil? Whereas in many religions people are hostile to any kind of devil”. For our understanding, at the beginners level all religions are full of prohibitions.  Again all religions.  It is similar to prohibiting small children from handling fire, playing with knives, and holding electric cables.  It is dangerous things.

Once you grow up, let alone being an electrical engineer,
there is nothing to stop us from holding cables and working in a place where there is electricity. The same thing happened with the growth of the spirit inside.  Once a person grows up, we do not learn only about light, dark and light are not two forces whom are at war.  But a pair of hands from the same dance.

Friends who study astrobiology (a combination of astronomy and biology) must often hear, in this vast universe 70% of the content is dark energy.  With such a large percentage, it can be predicted who will win if the dark energy is invited to war.  What perfect souls teach here is simple, do not go on a war, but embrace them.

Buddha is the Avatara with the closest time to our time.  Shortly before enlightenment, he was attacked by a dark force called the devil mara.  A professor from Oxford summed up the dangerous moments like this: “In the moment when Prince Siddharta accepted satan mara as part of himself, from that moment he was no longer Prince Siddharta, he was a Buddha”.

The lesson here, it is enough to grow in beginners level.  Left behind the spoiled attitude that are only want the light but not the darkness.  Guide yourself to grow mature.  Whenever necessary, open the door of Light.  As symbolized by the electric Light, it is not born by getting rid of the negatives, but by synthesizing negatives.

The meditative practical step, whenever we are visited by dark and light energies, do not refuse to much on the dark, do not also attach too much on the light.  Sit in the darkness in a way to be a witness of harmony.  Sadness is a kind of darkness, but without sadness, happiness will never be deep.

Failure is also another face of dark energy, but without going through failures any success will feel flat and bland.  The economy is now down, it makes billions of people out of job.  This is also a kind of dark energy.  As soon as it is gone, there will be a feeling of how wonderful it is to have a job.

Hence, the Compassion family has for years been guided like this in meditation sessions: “Accept, flow, smile. All are the dances of the same perfection”.  Another message that is often shared during meditation guidance: “The dry season does not reduce the amount of water in nature. The rainy season does not add more water to nature. Likewise with sadness. Let’s share a beautiful smile beautiful soul”.

In fact, in all religions, there are rare souls who can reach to this level of understanding.  In Hindu-Buddhism this path was occupied by Tantric disciples.  Hindus call this as the Nataraj dance of perfection.  The Nyingmas of Buddhist Tantra call this dzogchen.  The Kagyu practitioners of Buddhist Tantra call this mahamudra.

Whatever it’s name, it is not far from a simple explanation like this.  Just as the nature of water is wet, like the nature of beautiful flowers which is beautiful, the nature of the soul who perfectly blended with the dance perfection, their daily life is rich with beautiful love.  A Balinese elder’s song can be used as a guide for action once here.

Life is like sweeping the floor.  Now swept, it will be dirty soon.  In the same way, peace does continue to be spread.  At the same time, violence is also spreading.  The spreader of peace is like a sweeper.  The spread of violence is similar to dust and trash.  Both are part of the same dance of perfection.

In the Compassion family, the friends who have arrived here are given doctoral degrees S3 (Smile Simply Smile).  When sad-happy, filthy-saint is seen as a dance of the same perfection, there is nothing more to ask about, nothing more to be argue about.  What remains is only a pair of very beautiful wings of the soul: “silence and smile” (silence that be friends with a smile).

Welcome to the true home of beautiful souls!

About the author

H.H. Guruji Gede Prama

Gede Prama started his spiritual journey through a dialogue with his symbolic Guru in a village at the north of Bali. The journey is then being enriched with his experiences of studying abroad, his meetings with the world greatest spiritual Gurus: His Holiness Dalai Lama, The Venerable Thich Nhat Hanh, as well as Professor Karen Armstrong; and also being deepened by his intense meditation practices.

Despite the fact that he was once a CEO of a large corporation with thousand of employees, and was traveling abroad frequently for the purpose of teaching, yet, being deeply moved by the Bali bombing incident in 2002, he then decided to leave everything and went back to his home island.
He has never leave Bali for the past few years. In fact, he rarely leaves the silence of the forest where he lives, except for the purpose of teaching at the sacred sites within Bali.
