Quoting from anthropology, in all places on earth there’s “local genius”. Since Bali is well-known to the world, it’s worth to share the local genius of Bali island.
Without using the language of lower-higher, or worse-better, in Bali people pray in all cycle of night. Not only in the night when there’s full moon.
Even in the night when there’s no moon at all, Balinese pray. If you study Balinese calender, along the year there’s rituals. In certain months, people pray to higher realms.
In other months pray for the happiness of lower realms, and there are months when Balinese pray to purify the inner soul and harmony among people.
The spiritual message is simple but deep, where there’s lotus there’s mud. Where there’s light there’s darkness. If you remove the mud, you remove the lotus as well.
If you throw out darkness, you throw out light as well. In the language of Jung’s psychology, we all have dark parts which is called the shadow.
The beautiful thing about the local genius of Bali island, we are not suggested to run away from the shadow, but meet the shadow.
Especially because the more one try to remove the shadow, the more often the shadow will disturb. As nature embrace night and day, embrace your own shadow.
It’s a very convincing journey of healing. Remember, the famous physicist Dr. David Bohm wrote: “The word health come from the word whole”.
If you want to heal yourself, or even want to heal the planet, remember to train the mind holistically. That’s the deepest root of both inner peace and world peace.
If the spirit of Bali island bless us to share this local genius to the incoming world leaders to Bali, many human tragedies such as war and pandemic can be ended.
