The True Victory

Written by Gede Prama

In a number of religions and traditions, humans call their celebration day as the day of victory. Likewise with the Galungan day in the style of Balinese elders. In our historical records, there is a victory celebration of Light against darkness. Even though it can still needed to be asked again, light in whose sense?, darkness in what perspective?. And in the present context, victory has another face. Who needs another deepening. Especially because the human sciences are always contextual. Influenced by the development of many things in a certain time cycle.

It’s hard to deny, in this day and age the energy that has the greatest destruction is anger. Let alone a small family, even planet Earth can be destroyed in a short time if the leader of the state power is burned by frightening anger. For this reason, the first victory worth considering is victory over anger. Already studied extensively using an EEG machine (brain wave measuring machine), the biggest obstacle for humans in this age to grow spiritually is failure to forgive. Especially because the energy of anger is still very powerful inside. Anger does have many faces. From the wounds of the soul, the bad karma from the past, wishes that does not come true, until it grows in the path of life that is not in accordance with his or her natural life-calling.

Whatever the face of our inner anger, it is important to develop a balancing energy inside that can neutralize the energy of anger. On the path of meditation, the balancing energy is called the practice of consciousness. The second victory that deserves to be contemplated, learning to win from a very old conditioning. Everyone does not want evil, but evil continues to grow at all times. All religions prohibit violence, but violence is always present in every age of time. In the words of J. Krisnamurti, there is a very deep conditioning in humans. It looks like a TV set with a remote control held by someone else. Hence Krisnamurti gave the title of his masterpiece with freedom from the known. Free yourself from things that have been known. Free yourself from all forms of conditioning.

If science in school strongly emphasizes the importance of the ability to remember, in this path humans are strongly advised to have spiritual courage to forget. To be exact, removing a lot of knowledge that he/she has collect for years . Like the medicine from doctors, drugs that cure thousands of years ago, are not necessarily cure patient at this era. At this level, it takes a brave figure who dares to re-mix the right remedy that are suitable for the challenges in this era. Learning from findings in neuro-science that examine the impact of spiritual practices such as meditation on brain waves, this era desperately needs a wonderful medicine called forgiveness. Including forgiveness to forget bad thing or bad people who have hurt us.

Parents are hurt by grandparents, grandparents hurt by their parents. Without courage to forgive, the chain of suffering will continue from one generation to another. More than just breaking the chain of suffering, forgiving also makes a person evolve from the losing party (read: losing against anger), becoming the person of victory. Once someone can become a winner, there he can free himself from much deeper conditioning. The third victory that deserves a contemplation is a victory against excessive desire. Unique characteristics of this era, many humans who die because of  excess thing such as excess food, excess sugar, excess drug, more than those who died due to lackness. This is a bright message, if you want to be healthy and safe, learn to take enough distance with all forms of excessive desire.

Including excessive desire to immediately experience enlightenment. Excessive desire to be called holy. Excessive desire to be called humble. It is he who can cleanse himself from all forms of excessive desire, which deserve to be called a spiritual hero. As a path to get there, it is worth pondering to follow these following three steps. First, learn to becomes an empathetic listener in all forms of landscape inside. For those who is sensitive, there are many inner conversations that call him/her a victim who deserves pity. Sensitive people, it will just a matter of time will be pursued with a lot of guilt. Whatever the face of the inner landscape, learn to be less self-criticism, learn to be full of harmony with all the inner faces. Have the courage to get out of old conditioning such as the terms sin and hell.

Secondly, stop being a killer for yourself. Learn to be your own healer. The person who often criticizes himself through the title of sin, hell, contempt is an example of a human being who is killing himself slowly but sure. If it doesn’t stop, it will just a matter of time he/she will be visited with a dangerous disease. What is meant by being a healer for yourself is simple, what is called mistakes is just a pile of life lessons, not a punishment. Then rise from the mud of guilt, then learn to grow into a beautiful soul. Remind yourself again and again, all events are the representative of the same dance of perfection.

Thirdly, it is difficult to deny that school, culture, religion, tradition make all people became the same human being. It is basically, so that the community grows in order. There is no chaos. But as soon as we become an adult soul, especialy the more radiant, we will feel uncomfortable growing as most people do. That is why, here and there, there are anxious and restless eyes, and even some who are easily get tired. Even many are angry. The main reason is because someone is forced to grow up to be like someone else. As a result, the body is like someone else’s house. As beautiful as any arrangement outside, there is still an uncomfortable feeling inside. It is at this level that a spiritual breakthrough is needed to become an unique and authentic person.

Tens of years ago Ivan Illich had written a masterpiece called deschooling society, freeing people from the bad influence of school. This idea was too advanced at that time. So it doesn’t sell very well. But in the middle of a round of epochs where many humans have been alienated in their own bodies, this is the time to learn to recognize each other’s natural vocations. The secret is often hidden behind childhood dreams, subjects that easily attract interest in childhood and some compassionate people whom we met during childhood. From here learn to find the seeds, find a fertile land that allows the seeds to grow beautifully. As is often shared, dolphins beautify the ocean, butterflies beautify the garden, you are also beautifying life by being who you are. Accompanied by perseverance and sincerity, just a matter of time that we will be the real winners. Here we also can say goodbye to anger, conditioning and excessive desire.
